This is strange because cats do not get sexual pleasure per se the way humans do - in fact mating for a female is quite painful.



The "masturbation" action your friend is describing might be an indication that there is a urinary infection and irritation in that area. There may be also some skin irritation around the nipple. I suspect she may have just stumbled on this behavior as a means of relieving some pain or stress and is continuing it for that reason.



The only other thought I have on this is that some ovarian tissue might be left after spaying - although usually a cat show signs of being in heat. Perhaps the maternal instinct is kicking in here and she is getting some good feelings about having her nipple stimulated. It is hard to tell.



Your friend has done the right thing by taking the cat to the vet. Any unusual behavior should be checked out just in case there is an underlying medical cause.
