Cats seem to have an unreal fascination with water - also, excuse the bluntness here, when you eliminate you give off what is a fascinating odor to your cat. Cats "read" both urine and feces to determine all sorts of things about their friends and their enemies. Both of these facts probably explain why your cats have such a fixation for the bathroom.
