Combing Long Coat Kitty's

I have a question I have read that you are suppose to come long coat cats in the opposite direction of coat growth, is this true?



My Cats don't mind either direction and I don't really get more coat out in either direction. But I do know if you do the same to a dog it is very uncomfortable and not recommended.



So why backwards on cats?
