Your cat needs an element called taurine not found in baby food. See if you can slip him some cat food which is enriched with this element.
If your vet is uncertain what test to run next, then perhaps it is time to get a second opinion. If this is not possible check for feline diabetes, liver function and/or HIV/Feline Leukemia (if the cat goes outside or has been in contact with cats who go out.)
