I don't think you are over reacting. I have my ferals done at a low cost clinic and I understand about the wait. But mine are awake when I pick them up. Groggy but awake. In fact one of mine was a little more drowsy than the others and they warned me to keep a special eye on her. I would complain to someone. They should have told you to begin with that it may be evening before they take them in.
