It used to be really common for men to have a jar of mercury in their workshops. Not sure what they used it for. There was one in my grandparents' garage. We all used to play with it, watching the drops roll around or coating coins or other things with it. Also used to play with any in broken thermometers.(I've asked around and my family wasn't the only one that did that, btw) Of course, we also rode bikes without helmets and

received spankings without DHS being called in.
