.MP4 video questions

Does anyone have a camera that shoots in the .MP4 video format? I am getting a camera that will be good for wet, muddy environments, or shallow water. It's a Pentax Optio W20. This way, if I'm shooting amphibians, and drop the camera, it will be no big deal. My Sony shoots in the .MPEG1 video mode, and it can be a little pixellated even in the fine mode. How is the quality of .MP4? How does the file sizes compare?
