Much thanks Chris. That was the kind of advice I was looking for. I'll check out the Shaw book. One clarification, with respect to a book that provides advanced info, I was intending that to be useful when I pick up a DSLR. I've been thinking of getting a Nikon rig soon but I want to learn some of the basics first. Once again many thanks.
