How to look for snakes really depends on what species you're after. The mojority of species can be found under boards, rocks, and logs. Although, this really depends on the weather. In May you may find females of many species out basking trying to keep their eggs warm. I have found this to be especially true with brown snakes who are not normally big baskers.

Let me know what species you are after and I might be able to help you.

PS... I have no tips on finding hognose (they find you). lol
