May is propbably the best month for herping Ontario. Even towards the end of May you're not getting a lot of veg. growth yet.

Some of the amphibians will not be calling in May (especially later May). But some still will be. I'd have to check my notes but I know for a fact I heard Gray's well into June, maybe even July. I also saw/ heard Fowlers calling in May, June, and July.

I caught Yellow spots in early May. I was not in their habitat later than that so not sure how long you can find them for. I caught blue spots from May to August. Oddly enough I found them in their greatest numbers in July and August. Sometimes 200 in a day!

Of course all you snakes and turtles (the herps that really matter) will be out in full force in May. May is warm enough for them all to be out from their winter sleep but early enough that it's not too hot or all that pesky vegetation is not out.
Did I mention that I hate Stinging nettle. What a horrible plant!
