>>good choice? >> >>Pentax vs. Nikon D80
That is a really tough choice. They are both good cameras. You get a little more for your money with the Pentax (image stabilization and weather sealed camera). Most of the reviews of the 10D are very good.
To be very honest, if the Nikon had in-body image stabilization and was dust sealed at the same price, it would be no-brainer - go with the Nikon. Nikon has the advantage of having more options for accessories and lenses and is certainly going be around for the next 30 years. But since it lacks those two very important features, the decision isn't that clear.
One of the cool thing about the Pentax bodies is that you can use older manual focus (CHEAP!) lenses with this camera as well as their newer autofocus lenses.
Also, think about the accessories and lenses you may want in the future. Are they available in that line? How much do they cost? Yes, there are more Nikon accessories, but the ones you don't need are irrelevant. Also, Nikon likes to price their accessories higher than other camera brands. Check prices.
If you think all other factors are equal, I think the deciding factor should be the feel of the camera. You should try and handle each one (even if you are buying online). You may find one has a better feel. See which body has the buttons more easily accessible, etc.
Either way, you will end up with a good camera.
I assume you have a good reason for eliminating the other cameras in this range (Sony Alpha 100 and Canon Rebel XTi)? Have you checked this side by side comparison? D80 vs 10D vs a100 vs D400 ----- Chris Harrison San Antonio, Texas
