If you run Windows Vista, you can't use the Microsoft resizer. A good option is the free program (which I use on my Vista machine), is PLiska image resizer. It is easy to use, and allows for batch processing of multiple files, and can auto-append a suffix or prefix to aviod overwriting the orginal file.
