I agree -
I also found that between the ages of 4-8 they can and will double in weight. My 3 year old gained 6 pounds in one summer. This was all on grasses, hay, weeds, and the occasional Mazuri/salad mixture.
Bottom line you want slow and steady growth. As long as your little fellar is healthy and has access to graze when he/she wants you may see him put on 1 pound or 10. But from research and from those around who also have torts it's not uncommon for them to double in weight between the ages of 4-8. My 2 year old is very slow growing with weight and my 5 year old is growing more and more every day--my hatchling is gaining weight at a slow and steady pace. All are healthy and have access to grazing 24/7.
