Hello,

I know this is an extremely late response, but, just giving some input on your question.

I have a Hondo Milk (Lola-hence the username), and ever since I got her (in Feb. 2007), my daughter wanted a snake. So, I did some reading, and asked around.

I made the decision to get her a Ball Python for her 7th birthday. That was back in Feb. of this year, and I have to say that I am EXTREMELY happy with deciding to get a Ball Python for her, (she named him Neo). He's VERY calm, and has not even threatened to strike in the least bit. LOVES to be held! He's so cute!

So, I'm going to have to go with suggesting a Ball Python, as if that wasn't obvious! haha!

Good luck to your friend!

(My Lola is a good snake, too, just a little too "uppity" for a 7 year old)
