Boscs do live with clay soils. Savannah soils generally are higher in clays, and the grasslands of Ghana are no different. Look it up from those wonderful, reliable scientists that are so often made fun of on this forum. Clay also holds more water than other soil types, though once it loses its water content it does become very dry. However, the key point here is that dekay has his humidity holding at a high level anyway. The rest of what you say is just cosmetic preference so, who cares?
