This morning after I got up and puttered about the house for a little while, I decided to put the other two cats away and give my new kitty Iris some time out of the bathroom, to have a look around her new digs. I had seen my older cat Athena in the bedroom a few minutes before, so I put the dog in there as well and closed the door, then let Iris out of the bathroom and put Poseidan in it.
She went sniffing about and exploring, and I kept about my chores, letting her do her thing.
Well, apparently, Athena wasn't in the room when I shut my door, but was hiding behind either the TV or the bearded dragon cage...her two favorite spots. I went into the kitchen and literally dropped the box I was carrying.
If you knew Athena, you'd fully understand why this floored me so. She hasn't liked any other cat since her brother Church disappeared. For her to come across a new one and not be a hissing, spitting, growling fury up on some high perch somewhere on the opposite side of the room is like finding Cujo kissing some little baby bunny off in a field somewhere. It just doesn't happen.
But there they were, just like that, both purring away as if they'd known each other their entire lives. Not a hair lifted or a whisker turned. I just had to take a picture to commemorate the moment...and to prove it to myself later that it really happened.
Looks like I made a good kitty pick!
