You have one majorly stressed out kitty on your hands. Of course with your dad's diabetes you cannot tolerate this behavior. The cat needs heavy duty intervention and fast.

The first step is a trip to the vets. You need to describe the problem and give as much information as possible. Hopefully the vet will be able to examine the cat and see if the problem is medically related. If not, the problem is behavioral and hopefully the vet will prescribe some anti-anxiety meds if this is the case.

You will probably need to consult an animal behaviorist who can help you balance meds and redirecting the behavior. Your vet should be able to help with this, but if not there is a behavior help thing at Tufts. Your vet will have to interact with the behaviorists there. You can get more information at
www.tufts.edu/vet/petfax/

I cannot emphasize enough that your cat has a serious problem, but that it can be corrected. You will need to persue every avenue available. In the meantime, consider getting some Comfort Zone with Feliway plug-ins to help you cat calm down.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!
