That's good that they didn't lose the entire house. Whenever I see on the news about the homes lost in the Cedar Rapids area, I think of your parents. So many people suffered so much due to these storms.
Did their insurance help at all with the basement cost? What about FEMA, did they help cover the cost of the repairs, furnace, hot water heater and so on?
We've had so much rain here this year, practically all of 2008, either an overabundance of snow or when it warmed up, rain. Much more than usual. It was on 11/11/2008, that we had a storm in our area that caused a lot of damage to my house. Had rain coming in from a leaky pipe in the roof, which caused leaking through my kitchen cupboard which had to be replaced. Also the extensive rain did damage to my attached garage. Water was seeping in the finished basement in some parts of the carpet, as well. My insurance covered all of the repairs except the basement, which I don't have coverage on.
I knew that the state that you lived in started with an "M". ha! I'm happy for you that your climate is better than what I'm seeing on TV for the east coast. I've been to Maryland but it's been many years ago. My 2nd ex-husbands brother lives there, in Bethesda. We're still in the high 60s, which is pretty good for November.
David and Paula are growing up fast and doing great in school. Paula is 11 now and brings home straight A's. She's taller than my five foot at age 11. David is 16, over 6 foot tall, and is a junior in high school. His grades are great too, even with him holding down a part time job after school. He's been working at Arby's for almost a year and a half now. Has a driver's license and bought himself a used GMC Jimmy which is very nice. I'm proud of both of them.
That's so nice of you to be helping your neighbors like you are. I'll bet that it's exhausting for you, since you hold down a full time job too. I'm sure that the angels are smiling down on you. I don't know what I would have done if I wouldn't have had Pam here to help me after I had my knee surgery. So I just know how grateful your neighbors are, as I am to Pam for her help.
