I'm somewhat familiar with plated lizards, but I recently ran across a sizable one -- about 24 inches -- in a pet store, under the label "Ugandan Plated Lizard." The store is pretty knowledgable about their other animals, but they know *nothing* about this plated guy. He's in a 20gal tank, which is much too small, and lacks the kind of "hole" usually associated with a burrowing critter.

For $39.95, I'm tempted to pick him up, just because I know a bit about plateds, and we keep several herps already (igs, uros, corn snakes, turtles). He isn't tame; I suspect he was wild-caught.

Any advice or ideas? I worry about unusual herps, because people don't know what to do with them... the store has kind people, who keep good track of their animals, but I'm worried that they are so ignorant of this animal.

Can plateds be tamed?
