A year ago, I bought a G. validus without having much idea of what I was getting into. "Clyde" has become a very nice office companion -- he sits on me while I work, and he has a very pleasant personality.
A second G. validus has just joined us, a gift from a pet store that couldn't sell it. She had been pruchased at the same time I'd bought Clyde, and they were both wild caught together. Of course, one could have been captured in Gambia and the other in South Africa, but at least they "knew" each other previously.
We have an excellent local reptile vet, and we'll be monitoring the pair closely for conflicts. Both are quite strong and healthy, so we're not terribly concerned, just cautious.
The current habitat is about 5sq meters, and includes a new rock garden (well-constructed; it won't collapse.) The new lizard, called "Cassie" -- they says it's female, but I haven't confirmed -- was very nervous at first, but she calmed quickly and settled into a spot in the rocks.
Clyde seemed unaffected by the newcomer, and he's now settled under the rocks near Cassie.
Over the last year, Clyde has become quite handlable and calm; I suspect Cassie may do the same with the same care. Or at least I hope so. ----- Scott Robert Ladd 1.0.0 Iguana (Rex) 1.0.0 African Giant Plated Lizard (Clyde) 1.0.0 Uro mali (Wizard) 0.1.0 Corn Snake (Amber) 0.1.0 Red-Eared Sliders (Emerald) 0.0.1 Musk Turtle (Sausage) 0.1.0 Parakeet (Zeus) 1.4.0 Homo sapiens (Scott, Maria, Elora, Becky, Tessa) blog: http://chaoticcoyote.blogspot.com/
