yes, my calking does the same thing. when i first got him, when i would stick my hand in he would immediately run and get under something. now, he smells my hand, when i dont have food hell back off a little and just watch what my hand is doing, usually changing his water or cleaning his poop... hell watch what i do, then after im done and its all closed up, hell go to the area i was messing with and smell and look at everything thuroughly.
there are a few things that hes strong enough to move in his tank, and he appears to move them. maybe theyre just moving incidentally, but i couldve sworn he moved a cardboard hide closer to the under-tank heater.
he appears to be really on top of things....
