Going to Kiawah Is. SC

I'm headed for Kiawah Is. South Carolina just south west of Charleston. Any recommendations of what to be looking for and where? (Yes, I mean herps, not sightseeing ..lol) The Kiawah Is. sanctury is in walking distance that I'll be checking out, as well as Cougar Is. sanctuary nearby. Any spots near Charleston?
