This year's herp/camping trip was a sucess for all. Thunderstorms that were predicted for this weekend turned out to be a few light drizzles in just a few areas. The sun broke through in the early mornings and we were able to hunt at our leisure.

John Mizuhara made the first catch. We hit the Convict Creek for some trout fishing Saturday morning before scouring the countryside for rubber boas further up the road. His fishing was a little slow but his eye was quick to spot the garter snake before it could dart across the creek. Not bad for a morning down at the creek!

That afternoon, we visited Hot Springs for a nice long soak. That sure takes the edge off a pair of sore feet and weary bones, ummmm.

On Sunday morning, we broke camp and headed back down the hill. I figured we had given a good effort on the rubber boas but the weather conditions just weren't the best. As we sped off towards Bishop, there it was! A rubber boa on the shoulder of the 395 freway. It didn't look like road kill but at , um, 65'ish and in the left lane we couldn't pull over in time and it would have been several miles and back if we would have circled back.

At the last leg of the trip on the way home, we stopped for some desert species. We didn't see any collareds but we did find 3 nice chuckwallas. we ende up with 2 out of 3 before the heat drove us back on the road.
