Ok. This is probably really stupid, and I really don't even know how to ask it, but are there any laws or regulations being proposed to help us out as herp keepers? Things like making permits for crocodilians, anacondas, and venomous more available? Even charging an inspection fee of the caging and your ability to safely care for it if necessary. Also, especially anything pertaining to catching herps out of the wild. Maybe putting a limit on the number you can take like some states have. I work at a pet shop, and almost every day I have parents coming in with their kids, a little snake or frog in a cage that they just caught in hand. They bring them in to be identified and learn how to take care of them. And to really be honest, I don't have the heart to tell a 5 year old who's so excited about his little catch of a garter snake, water snake, or toad that he has to let it go because the government says so. The only time I really insisted to a child's parent that it had to be let go was when they brought in a grey treefrog. I understand endangered and threatened species being protected...but things as common as toads, garter snakes, and water snakes, among others, shouldn't be AS restricted. I don't even know if this post has much of a point, just needed to get out my 2 cents.
