Those are nice snakes. Your's may be black and not brown - but I have seen and owned many from South Carolina that are brown and cream. They vary in South Carolina as much as anywhere else.
I have seen South Carolina Eastern Kings from Edisto Island and nearby locales with thick white or cream bands on black or brown --- and I have seen South Carolina Eastern Kings from the western part of the state that are black and yellow --- much like Eastern Kings I have seen from Iredell and Catawba County, North Carolina --- closer to the mountains and piedmont - and they also look closer to the Easterns I have found here in Maryland.
It has more to do with the habitat than the geographical boundaries, in my opinion. I bet the coloration of Eastern Kings also has more to do with height above sea level, topography, vegetation, and type of soil than which state they come from. ----- ECC
