Hi Tony
I've been trying to selectively bred these guys for a couple of years now and I usually look for certain characteristics for my projects. First, I look for the high busy/speckled side patterns (TYPE II). This is one of the main reason I love how they look and this is what makes them really unique from other Tricolors/Mountain King Snakes. I'm trying to get and selectively breed animals to increase the appearance of this trait. "Tha mo', tha betta" Second, I look for high band counts I think this characteristic makes a more dramatic appearance to the already busy pattern. Third, would be some cool head pattern. I like the high red head patterns but I personally don't care if they have an all black head cap. I guess it's an added bonus for me if they do. Fourth, some people like reduced black animals but I've seen animals with really thick black borders that are more striking. Personally, I like them both as much. There are some others like color, pattern variation, and amount of white between the read blotches and side pattern that you can add to the above.
Here are just a few pictures of animals that I bought and/or held back in the past few years and will be my future breeders. You can see some of the things I mentioned and they are unique in their own right. It will be fun to see what they will produce. I also picked up a few very nice hatchlings from other breeders that I'm going to incorporate to my projects. The future is very exciting!
