That's one sweet mama, Doug! As for the speckleds, when they come out of the egg, most are a bit more defensive, getting the attitude and staying with it, for the most part. Almost all that I have hatched show this "spitfire" attitude, but as we know, they are sooooo tiny, it is comical to say the least! What's really funny is most of the adults I find are more timid, preferring to hide their head and smear musk, lol! For a novice it may be a little unnerving, but it is definitely all show, they seem to settle as well as any of the central kings such as splendida. I don't know if it is a western thing or what, but for laid back, it has to be MBK.
I hatched 3 for 3 from a first time Calhoun county, Texas girl and they are fairly shy for specks, not the norm for me, but just goes to show, they are all individuals, and can vary from clutch to clutch. I have one more batch of Calhoun X Refugio county specks to go, in the next few weeks. let's see if I have a pic...
