Thanks for posting this Terry. Idiots will us all in as hobbyists, breeders and snake owners.
I'm a nervous mess every time I ship (and I obey all the rules by being certified by Fedex to ship reptiles and have used Ship your Reptiles several times this year). I've had no real problems to speak of but I can't believe some of the bull that people think they can get away with. I was recently told a story by a guy who bought some snakes from someone who posts pretty regularly on KS and the hatchlings were in a very small box with the heat pack placed on the outside of the jerry-rigged stryofoam liner. That's right, the heat pack was between the styrofoam and the cardboard box. I'm not sure what that was supposed to heat. The snakes survived the trip but were very cold on arrival from what I was told.
And for those who harp on the media for reporting on stuff like this, give me a break. My day job is as a newspaper editor. People doing dumb stuff and in this case essentially neglecting and abusing an animal by improperly shipping it is noteworthy. This time it was a false water cobra. Next time it could be a spitting cobra. There probably is a story in there somewhere about all the whacky stuff people try to ship - some of it dangerous.
The lesson we should all learn - don't cut corners, obey the rules even if you don't agree with them and be careful.
