Senator Nelson's Python Ban = Florida Orange Juice Boycott.



Driven by powerful special interests, Senate bill S. 373 also referred to as the 'The Python Ban" is likely to move pass despite its discredited "scientific justification".



The bill is sponsored by Senator Bill Nelson (D. FL) at the behest of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). The HSUS's involvement is significant because it is not associated with local animal shelters as most people believe. The HSUS is in fact an extreme animal rights (AR) organization who seeks to end the keeping of ANY reptile as a pet.



Currently, the HSUS is exploiting the sensational element of giant snakes loose in the Florida Everglades so that Senator Nelson may draw attention to the much needed Everglades restoration effort. Though Mr. Neslon's goal of Everglades's restoration is laudable he is allowing himself to be used by an extremist organization.



Mr. Nelson has been contacted by leading members of the reptile keeping community (USARK.ORG) but has made the political calculation that he can use poor science to remove our rights if it advances his "greater" agenda. We seek to change this calculation by boycotting Florida orange juice. By some estimates 1 in 4 American households owns a pet reptile. Full participation in this boycott would have a huge impact on Florida Citrus growers and distributors. If Mr. Nelson will not hear our voice perhaps he will hear that of constituents.
