Who is happy with herping?

When I was a boy, I was introduced to snakes, toads, gators, lizards, and other nature by my grandfather. Ever since then, herping (that wasn't a word by then) has been such a source of joy and entertainment for me that it is hard to describe. I was just wondering if anyone else enjoys herping for what it is. If it was enjoyable at one point and not now, what has changed and why? Also, is it possible to have rational & useful conversations about a common interest/hobby on this forum without anyone getting wounded? and if not, why not? Just some thoughts and questions....
