I had my only serious escapes using clips on a 20-long and 29-gal tank. As far as I can guess, the snakes pushed up on the lid and lifted the top plastic cap around the tank (?). I like 10-gallons for my little pueblans, and use heavy art books to weigh them down. Weighing down has worked well for me, never having an escape with weights.
