Very cool Amy!,.......well, he was VERY, VERY dark chocolate brown(almost black), but not quite. I sold him 12 or so years ago, so who knows how many hands he went through..LOL!. I will say though, that the photo of him certainly has enough identifying markings to positively ID one way or the other to the one you have. I would FLIP if that was actually him! 
Good luck with yours, wherever it came from. So many snakes(and other animals too) get constantly neglected out there, and it upsets me to no end!. Glad your snake is now being well cared for now
