I'm guessing WAAY back in the day, they probably ran out and got what they could from the cows and chickens while they still could, then hauled-a$$ back inside. They probably just opened the door and melted the snow for water...LOL!



I'll bet it is just a sort of habit you northerners do because your parents, and their parents did it out of necessity. Now everyone does it just to go through the motions. I could be very wrong here too, but it sounds very likely to me, even though I have been in Florida all my freakin life, and have only seen snow less than ten times...HAHAHAHAA!!
