They will feel a bit more secure in the dark, yes, but it doesn't necessarily have to be pitch black, just not well lit in a real bright room is best, but no real biggie.

Just make sure there isn't alot of movement that they can see, or they can keep poking their heads back inside the egg, and take a bit longer to come out..LOL!
