The forums need more "difference of opinion" or controversy. Without such, there is no progress.

At this time, colubrid husbandry has not progressed in decades. Its refined itself to a dull middle of the road recipe method.

In doing that, all your going to get is people being people and using this forum for a playground, then stop all together. Then it will become the Greek Tort forum. Dead as dead can be.

The point of current husbandry is holding animals and making babies. Thats it. There is no learning about the animals, they do what you tell them or they die.

In most cases, the only way to see them is to open the drawer and pull one out. Like baseball cards. Which is why the only thing of interest is what different pattern or morph can be produced. As the snakes themselves, have NO VALUE. Its only what they look like, then their commerical value.

The problem is simple, shoebox setups should only be for commerical breeders. Private keepers should keep animals to enjoy the WHOLE reptile experience. As in, the producer and the consumer.

What went wrong is, every(most) setups are commerical therefore, everyone is a commerical breeder, which as you have seen drops the value of any snake in weeks, months, etc.

The industry needs to develop standards for keeping where the animals are interesting to watch. Not just a drawer that mice go in and poop comes out.

These snakes are very complex behaviorally, they do interesting things, But 99% here do not care, they just want predictable eggs.

Kingsnakes live in groups, make marvelous nests, combat eachother, climb, burrow, swim, etc etc etc, BUT NOT IN A DRAWER.

So, once all the meat of the subject is taken away(the snake stuff) You have a barren field. So whos going to come and play, people. People will be people and they will fool with eachother, they have fooled witheachother. For as long as people have been people. Its not about kids, or immature, or any of that. Its ABOUT, theres nothing to talk about. How could there be, a snake in a box.

Only so much to be said for a snake in a box.
