Excellent find. I normally herp the northern edge of the SC mountains in the Santa Clara/San Mateo county areas and noticed that a lot of snakes can be found gravid around this time (such as gophers, Charina , etc). I've recently stumbled upon a pair of San Mateo zonata that apparently were breeding in mid June.

What county are you herping? Any details on the cal king? (temps, AC vs. natural cover, etc)? No need to spill any specific info...just like to know more

Man...field herping rules
