I think some manage to inhale the very thick egg white albumen) and simply suffocate. I have had neonates pop out and duck back in when they get spooked from the lid being taken off, only to find them dead later on as well. Like they duck way down inside their coils and sometimes can't find their way back up to the top where they originally pipped. It is similar I guess to some snakes not being able to find their way out of a water bowl that has a lid on it with a hole cut out of the middle. They keep searching around the inside edge where the lid is locked down, but don't realize the escape/entrance hole is in the middle of the lid. More than a few youngsters have died that way as you already know. | ||
