to really emphasis your point...

if you put those snakes in a completely bare 10ft x 10ft enclosure they would probably "feel" overwhelmed, countless of thousands of years are screaming out "I'm exposed, I'm vulnerable"... those same snakes in the same room but with multiple hides, spots where they feel secure and hidden will be as "happy" as the proverbial pigs in sh!t.

To bring things back to a more realistic level... if your goal is to keep your snakes in a display type enclosure then yes... your idea of length and width of enclosure equals length of snake is a great place to start... at least IMO
