I can see at a glance who is due to be fed again and check mark their names so I know how many mice to get from the mouse barn that day. Old clipboard records go into plastic baggies in the order they were recorded, so I can go back years and correlate patterns in feeding, growth, breeding. If all my records were on my hard drive that would be risky in case of hard drive failure (although frequent backups should prevent data loss), and also unwieldy as it would require electricity to access.
