Within San Mateo County, Charina (Rubber boas) are found in a wide range of different habitats and settings. I have found them now in pine/oak forests, Coastal sage scrub (very dry), redwood forests, and grassy hillsides studded with rock outcroppings.
This particular boa was found under a pile of logs and tree debris placed off of a concrete trail in the middle of a grassy field surrounded by pine.
Coast scrub habitat/chapperal ontop of hills/higher elevation yields tons of them, especially if there is AC around.
They are found year round in San Mateo. I have flipped them at daytime temps of 45F all the way up to 82F.
