I first thought you meant Desert phase Cal. king. After re-reading your post, if you are referring to a snow Desert king (L.g.splendida) as the one's Don Shores produced recently, those are amel x axanthic. As you mentioned, there is no red pigment normally involved(erythrin), only yellow. So when the F-1 hets are bred to each other, a theoretical 25% will be snows displaying neither color.
