I noticed that with my Eastern King some years ago, seemed she wouldn't eat rats...she appeared even scared of them. Then I noticed something I hadn't noticed before...Kingsnakes mouths don't separate and spread as wide and open as most other snakes, so they are unable to swallow the larger prey items. It's not a rat thing though...my Eastern King will suck down rat pups and just weaned rats as voraciously as she will adult mice.
