The Louisiana Gulf Coast Herpetological Society has elected two new members to its Board of Directors for 2004. They are Rodney Oliveri, who will coordinate major events, and Lonnie Senior, who will coordinate education projects. Fred Mattingly, who will serve as President and web master, Thomas Eimermacher, who will serve as vice president & programs, Bill Watts who will serve as secretary and legislative coordinator, and Patti Faurie, who will serve as treasurer and activities coordinator, were all re-elected as directors.

The LGCHS has a unique election system. A Board of Directors are nominated and elected by the general membership each November. The Officers are then elected by the Directors. This encourages more participation by the members and eliminates people being elected by popularity rather than ability. This system has allowed tremendous growth by the Society, over 100 new members in less than three years. The Board of Directors elects the president for not only good ability but also having a vision or direction for the Society for his term. He is only re-electable once if he is reelected the following year as a Director. Past presidents have emphasized growth & quality. Fred wants us to get back to basics and to all the little thigs well. ~Bill~
