Herping in FL?

Hoping to get some clarification on FL herp laws. I would like to come down and collect some snakes, which I hope will end up at a college (where I did work and my wife now works). Am I correct in that I don't need a permit to hunt for snakes in FL? What about taking them across state lines back north? One more, when does the price for hots go from 5 to 100? It still says 5 on the webpage. Thanks for any help.
