The LGCHS Legislative Committee will be posting an overview of regulations of native LA reptiles. Regulations for permits for constrictors over 12 feet and venomous snakes haven't been submitted by the LA Reptile & Amphibian Task Force to the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries yet. So, until notice is given, these reptiles are unregulated by the State of Louisiana.

However, some local & parish ordinances are in effect that do regulate them. You may email me at billwatts@cox.net for specific regulations in certain areas. The State of Louisiana does require you to have a basic fishing license to collect and keep native reptiles regardless of geographic origin. If you want to sell what you have caught, then you need a collector's license. You need a wholesaler/dealer license to buy or resell these reptiles or to sell captive born. You may not buy or sell box turtles regardless of origin. You may collect 2 per day but may not have more than 4 in your possession. Alligator snapping turtles may be collected but may not be bought or sold if they are under 15" carapace length. This is just a sketch.
