That's a common technique to get any kind of difficult eater to eat, even corns. But the vast majority of 'common' kings will immediately eat anything that even looks like a mouse. So you shouldn't have to worry about it. I've got a blotched and you just don't get better eaters. (a 'good' eater is one that takes unaltered f/t rodents without hesitation)

I've only had to do it once, and it was really gross and didn't work anyway. I think it was for a sand boa.
