New Cal.King Owner needs help.

I recently acquired a male cal. king. He is 2 foot long, and said to be just out of hibernation. The family I acquired him from said they never wanted a snake and this was a boyfriends pet. The girl I got this from gave me the snakes cage witch is a 30 gallon reptile enclosure with a looking lid. She had him housed on Ecco earth "coconut fibers," I got him yesterday cleaned the cage and put the left over bag of Ecco earth in with him. He has an undertank heater, hide spot on the warm side, large climbing branch, water dish and decorative rock to aid in shedding. I bought him 2 pinkies yesterday," He had no trouble eating right away." Today I checked on him and I noticed he has pieces of skin flaking off, not like a normal shed at all. Is this from lack of humidity or could it be something else? Let me know if I have sufficient housing and any help on the shed problem will be appreciated.
