it's not so odd...

a snake's a lot more likely to eat just before it sheds, when its skin has cleared up, than it is when it's in the middle of a shed period and very milky or "blue". And it's a lot less likely to regurg a late meal like that than one eaten in the middle of the shed. But as jones noted, it's still better not to offer food at any point in the shed period, because of the risk.
