venomous snakes in CA

After searching the internet for laws regarding the keeping of venomous reptiles in California, I came across a site that says an individual may keep up to two of each venomous species indiginous to california without a permit, and any other venomous species kept requires a permit. What I'd like to know is A) what venomous species ARE in california, and B) how hard is it to obtain permits for an exotic species? (I'm interested in a gaboon viper)
