How Do You Start a Herp Society?

I Live in Alaska and own a basic small zoo. I have a house hold of scales scutes and crawly things. In fact there are tons of people who own reptiles, amphibians and such up here but there isn't a herp society in sight. I have heard lots of interest from people wanting to join one and I would love to put the time and effort in to starting one, but the question is where do I start? I have contacted some of the reptile veterinarians in my area and they would love to be part of one so if anyone can point me in the right direction I am up for anything.
